9 Must-Go Things to Do and See in November-December in the O.C.

Looking for something to do other than shopping for gifts in the middle of a chaotic mall? The O.C. has a number of exciting holiday-related events to get you in the spirit.

1. Surfing Santa Competition | November 21, 2015

A fun surf competition where everyone decides to dress like Santa or any other holiday-inspired character and hits the surf Salt Creek to benefit Surfers Healing.  There is also the Holiday Surfboard Auction where unique surfboards are auctioned on-line and are displayed throughout The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel through Dec. 31. At Salt Creek Beach, Dana Point.

2. Big Boat Parade | December 12 – 21, 2015 

The Newport Beach Boat Parade is a huge Christmas event not only for Orange County and Los Angeles but all of Southern California. With more 100 years of history, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade attracts more than 1 million each year. Newport Harbor’s boat parade is from Dec. 17-21 at Newport Beach/Newport Bay. Free to the public. The boat parade will light up the harbor for five consecutive nights. The parade starts at Bay Island at 6:30 p.m. and lasts around two and a half hours. More than 250 ships participate in the parade along with many of the area’s water front estates.

4. Cool Christmas Walk in Corona del Mar | December, 2015

The annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk & Festival is filled with holiday festivities for family and friends. Thousands head into the Village of Corona del Mar for entertainment, food, prizes and games. There are Carolers, food, beer and wine garden, Santa visits, and a drawing full of local prizes.

4. A Christmas Carol  | November – December, 2015

The timeless Dickens classic with the Ghosts of Christmas past, along with those present and future is a holiday favorite for everyone. At South Coast Repertory. 

5. Dana Point IlluminOcean | November – January, 2015

Dana Point will be showcasing “40 Nights of Holiday Lights” with more than 1 mile of cool sea sculptures and moving light tunnels along the coastline. Free. At Dana Point Harbor, 34555 Golden Lantern, Dana Point. 

6. St. Regis Resort Holiday Afternoon Tea | December, 2015  | Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Sip a variety of teas and delicious delicacies created by the resort’s award-winning pastry chef Frederic Moreau in Dana Point.


7. Hooray for Chanukah
 | December, 2015

Celebrate Chanukah at Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine. Lots of activities about the holiday and its many traditions will be the focus of this event. Play games and participate in art projects and other activities. At Pretend City Children’s Museum, Irvine.

8. Sawdust Winter Fantasy  | Five weekends | November – December, 2015

This one-of-a-kind show offers shoppers the chance to by real artisan crafts from area artists. Includes live entertainment and numerous hands-on art projects. At the Sawdust Art Festival, 935 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

9. Turkey Trot | Dana Point  | Thanksgiving Day

California’s largest Thanksgiving Day run event, The Dana Point Turkey Trot, is hosted by The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce. Runners run along the beautiful beach and carved cliffs, and coves of Dana Point. The chamber partners with the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group to benefit the Marines during the Thanksgiving holidays.
